The West Central Choral Program is looking for volunteers to help make "singers masks" for approximately 70 JH & HS singers. Masked singing has become our "new normal," but unfortunately, singing with a mask can quickly become frustrating - taking deep breaths usually means sucking in fabric at the same time! If you are able to assist us in completing this project, please contact Mrs. Fink via email (sfink@wc.k12.ia.us).

Online learners-if you did not request meals you will still NOT receive them unless you contact the mail office.

Beginning Monday, September 14th, 2020 ALL enrolled students(including online learners) will receive free reimbursable breakfast and lunch meals each day school is in session. Although the regular school meals will be free of charge there will still be a charge for al a carte items. Additionally, there will continue to be a charge of adult meals. The USDA has approved the program to operate through Decmeber 31, 2020 or until the funds run out. This approval is not retroactive. Meals served from August 31st-Sept 11th have been charged to accounts. Only reimbursable meals including all required nutritional components are covered. Not included are a la carte items, snack milk and any other "extra" purchases outside of a meal. One breakfast and one lunch per day per student is included.

After careful consideration and discussions with administrative groups, West Central will be allowing the use of gaiters. This of course will be continued with reviews of policies during this unprecedented period of time.
West Central still highly recommends the use of facial masks that have two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric which completely covers your mouth and nose and fit snugly against the side of the face with no gaps.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html
Dress code will still follow the school appropriate guidelines for both gaiters and standard masks. Designs should reflect the decorum of the school day.

Our Return to Learn Plan can be accessed now by clicking on the link at the top of our home page.

West Central’s Return to Learn Plan (R2L/RTL) will be made available to the community on the district website and social media by Tuesday, July 21. The previous Return to Learn outline was a list of assurances that were turned into the Iowa Department of Education (DE) by July 1st. This assurance and initial plan outline was accepted by the DE in July. In the following weeks, five separate subcommittees and a District Leadership Team worked hard to determine what school will look like next year. The subcommittee areas include: Leadership and Infrastructure, Health and Safety, Social Emotional Learning, Academics and Student Equity. Each of these groups have been meeting weekly to determine how to safely educate our students next year in a face to face setting, distance format, or a hybrid model. This has been challenging work, but our plan will remain fluid as guidance for schools continues to change.
The full R2L will be a document with the details associated with face to face learning, distance learning, and our potential hybrid plan. Our hope is that all students return to school on August 24th, however the ultimate decision will need to account for all health related eventualities. We believe in the importance of face-to-face interactions between students and teachers, which is why we will continue to support a structured return to school in whatever form that takes. We also understand every family's situation is different. Because of this, West Central is working on developing a Virtual Instructional Program for families that may not be ready to send their children back to traditional style of schooling.
After we have shared the return to learn plan with the community, we will be hosting some virtual meetings for parents surrounding technology, health protocols and social emotional support. These meetings will happen over Zoom or will be recorded and addressed on the district website.
Our goal with all students in the virtual learning format, is that they return to school as soon as they are able. The virtual learning format is not something that students can move in and out of on a daily basis. Once this option is selected, the student will remain in this format until a plan to return to school can be made with the building principal and the students’ teacher(s) along with state and county health officials.
Please remember that our plan to return to face-to-face instruction in August is subject to change. Based on the guidance we receive from the governor, the Iowa Department of Education, and the Fayette County Public Health Department, there may be a need to alter the plan to align with current health trends. As we update and change the plan, we will communicate these changes to you.
I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. Please take care of yourself and your family.
Matthew Molumby, PK-12 Principal

Dear West Central Juniors and Seniors,
On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 the West Central administration has decided to cancel prom for the 2019-2020 school year:
To protect the public’s health and wellbeing, the state of Iowa is reopening slowly and at this time it is still recommending smaller gatherings held in enclosed spaces that do not allow social distancing also be postponed or canceled or held virtually.
With this continued recommended information from health providers, I regret to inform you that this year's Junior/Senior Prom is cancelled. This decision was not made lightly and I sincerely hope that students and families understand that this is in the best interest of students' health
.
Sincerely, Matthew Molumby, Principal

West Central Community School District (WCSD) COVID-19 FAQ
How long will school be closed?
At this point, The West Central Community Schools will be closed through Monday, April 13, 2020, following Governor Reynolds’ statewide recommendation.
Will students still receive meals?
During the school closure, we are committed to providing meals to our students. The District, through the Nutrition Services Department, is establishing drive-through or walk-up meal pick-up location.
Will students have to make up the missed school days?
Governor Reynolds announced that she is signing a bill approved by the legislature that allows her to forgive the instructional hours missed during the school closure. This means that students will not need to make up the school days missed during the next several weeks.
Will staff be paid during the closure?
It is critical that we support the health, safety, and well-being of our staff during this uncertain time. This includes helping minimize any financial impact to employees while schools are closed. We recognize pay and financial security are extremely important to all families. The District will continue to pay employees their normal salaries and wages during the school closure.
Will the District provide opportunities for online learning during the school closure?
Instruction and student learning remain a priority for the District. We continue to work with the state to determine how this would and could look. Teachers will still be in contact online during the coming weeks with resources and alternative online instruction. This instruction will continue to be optional and not graded. Again, this is for parents and students to utilize during the closure as optional and not graded resources.
Will the current enrollment/RAMS schools continue to meet online during the closure?
As of March 20,2020, the RAMS concurrent courses taught by NICC faculty will not resume online until we receive approval from your schools. For now, concurrent sections being taught at RAMS are on hold. We have asked our instructors to continue to transition their face to face coursework to an online format, but to not start the class back up with assignments, deadlines, expectations at this time. Instructors will be emailing or putting an announcement in their class that it is at present on hold until we are given the green light to begin.
These courses include:
Gen Bio II
Human A&P II
Composition I and II
Public Speaking
Intro to Psychology
Pre-Employment Strategies
Introduction to Accounting
Business Computer Applications
Infant/Toddler Care and Education
Is the District cleaning buildings regularly?
Yes, the District has a regular cleaning schedule for all buildings. In addition to the measures already in place, the District will conduct cleaning procedures - as recommended by the CDC - while schools are not in session. This will include cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces, including tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.

Did you know? One pint of whole blood - the most
common form of donation - can save up to three lives!
The student government would like to thank all who donated (or tried to donate) blood at our blood drive yesterday. We had many first-time donors among our student body.
We ended with 28 units which will help to save many lives!
